Team Lions for Hope joined 1,400 walkers in San Francisco on a beautiful, sunny day for the third annual City of Hope Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer. Our team raised almost $8,000, but we have until the end of the year to raise our goal of $10,000. In these economic times, it’s hard to raise funds, but breast cancer doesn’t go away in hard times. City of Hope needs our help now more than ever, so please go to www.tinyurl.com/2009lionsforhope and donate your City of Hope dollars specifically for breast cancer research. It affects 1 out of 8 women, and all of us when it’s a loved one or dear friend. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so please help us achieve our goal. It will benefit City of Hope, it will benefit Lions, and it will benefit all the women we know who have bravely battled this disease.
It was my honor and privilege to be one of four California District Governors to be given the Quick Start Ginkgo Award by International President Eberhard Wirfs, and one of 57 governors worldwide. This special recognition was for 2009-2010 district governors who extended clubs before August 30th, 2009 and was presented by International President Wirfs at the USA/Canada Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. Each district governor that qualified received a special plaque and a mention in LION Magazine.
Congratulations to IPDG Marlene Duffin, PCS Karen Fillmore, RC Hugh Donagher and the team of coordinating Lions of 4C6 for qualifying 4C6 for the Quick Start Ginkgo Award by chartering the Mountain View Silicon Valley Lions Club and the Willow Glen Lions Club before August 30, 2009. In keeping with our “Going Green” efforts, our District Newsletter, All Points Bulletin, will be distributed electronically by Region and Zone Chairs, and Club Presidents and Secretaries. They will be responsible for making sure Club Members are aware of the link to download or, if they do not have access to computer or e-mail, making sure they get a paper copy. We are introducing a subscription for those who wish to be guaranteed that the newsletter will be mailed directly to them. The cost is just $5 for the year, four issues, to cover the cost of printing and mailing. Checks should be made out to District 4C6 and mailed to CST Jean Westcott at 4000 Rio Rd., #34, Carmel, CA 93923.

Many thanks go to PID Dr. Bill Iannaccone for taking time out of a busy schedule and making my installation a most memorable one, complete with props. The marble horse head statue will be with me at all District meetings. Thank you for your inspiring and informative message to the Lions of 4-C6.
And thank you to my visiting District Governor, Marty Van Zandt from 4-C2, for traveling all the way from Eureka to be with us. Thank you for being part of an enjoyable weekend and for the kind words you imparted to the members of our District.
I’d like to especially thank Santa Cruz Host Lions for providing the refreshments and beverages and for taking the time out of your Sunday morning to set it up for the cabinet meeting. Early arriving Lions were grateful for the coffee, juice, doughnuts, muffins and fruit. I neglected to thank you at the cabinet meeting and I wish to convey my sincere appreciation for a job well done.
Thanks go to our presenters in the cabinet training sessions: PDG Steve Brown for President training; RC Hugh Donagher for Region and Zone training; Lion Tim Musselman for Secretary/Treasurer training; and PCT Lila Johnson for White Cane training.
And thank you, Lions of 4-C6, for participating in the cabinet meeting and training. You are the spokes that keep the wheels moving. I look forward to serving with you as your District Governor in this Lionistic year and carrying out the theme of International President Eberhard Wirfs “Move to Grow.”
